The recently ended Milan Fashion Week ran from 20 to 26 February 2024 and was dedicated to the Autumn/Winter 2024/2025 collections. With its spectacular fashion shows and the numerous events that animated the six days dedicated to women's fashion, Milan confirmed its role as the fashion capital of the world: a city capable of setting future trends, because creative ferment, elegance, glamour and beauty are at home here.
MFW : a calendar full of events
Over 160 events studded last February’s Fashion Week. In addition to “physical” fashion shows, there were digital fashion shows, presentations, showroom events and glamorous evenings.

Alongside the well-known faces of international fashion, emerging brands from all over the world presented their collections, reinforcing MFW's vocation as a crossroads of cultures, inspirations and influences. Those to watch out for are: Rave Review, a sustainable Swedish brand based on the concept of upcycling and high-end craftsmanship; Phan Dang Hoang, an exponent of the Vietnamese new wave; and Feben, the brand of the Ethiopian designer of the same name now based in London selected for the Supported by Dolce & Gabbana project.
There were several debuts by well-known creative directors in the collections of established brands, such as Adrian Appiolaza for Moschino, following the untimely death of Davide Renne. Or Matteo Tamburini who, after his experience at Bottega Veneta, arrived at Tod's to replace Walter Chiapponi, who presented his first collection for Blumarine on the same day.
The jewellery showcased at Milan Fashion Week
Jewellery was as much a protagonist at the latest MFW as the clothes: it complemented and enhanced the looks on the catwalk without going unnoticed, gleaming in its own light, setting the trends for next Autumn/Winter.
The general trend runs in the opposite direction to the minimalism consolidated in recent collections, proposing oversized dimensions and extravagant looks. XXL earrings, bold necklaces, chunky bangles, big chokers and maxi pendants were paraded on the catwalks, contrasting with more sober and essential outfits.

The leitmotif of the jewellery on the Milan Fashion Week catwalks is sculptural inspiration and mix & match also in materials: from Moschino's cascades of pearls to the theatrical masks that Etro turned into single earrings and pendants, to the combination of leather and metal in Fendi's maxi earrings.
The maxi-link necklace will be one of the most eagerly awaited trends. We saw it in several fashion shows and it lends itself to being one of the cult accessories of the upcoming seasons.
Jewellery has always turned fashion into an enchanting tale of elegance and refinement, capturing the imagination and inspiring dreams of timeless beauty.

What was new compared to Milan Fashion Week in September 2023?
February's MFW marked a new direction for Italian fashion: far from the excesses and glitz of the past, the clothes on the catwalk were stylistically more sober, with a special focus on elegance and rigour. One only has to think of Sabato De Sarno's collection for Gucci, more essential than the work previously done by Alessandro Michele, or Versace's formal turn.
Black, brown and grey dominate, the lines are essential and reinterpret classic styles with contemporary touches. The recurring materials are leather, vinyl, velvet and wool, which have been processed to create a 3D effect.

The bow, a recurring theme in the Prada fashion show and others too, is a fashion trend to note for next winter. Having already been celebrated in the previous season, we will also see it on the streets of our cities, not only on clothes but also as a distinctive detail of jewellery and accessories.
