MILAN FASHION WEEK 2023: TRENDS AND NEWS FROM FASHION WEEK

The spotlight is still on the world fashion capital, Milan, with its exclusive locations and streets always ready to welcome a multitude of fashion lovers, industry professionals and style enthusiasts.

Milan Fashion Week 2023 animated the city from 19 to 25 September 2023 with a very tight calendar of events, digital shows, after-parties and fashion shows dedicated to the new Spring Summer 2024 women's collections, including glamour, new trends and beauty.

Milan Fashion Week: a bit of history

The first "Milan Fashion Week" was established on the model of the fashion shows organized by Giovanni Battista Giorgini in 1951 at Palazzo Pitti in Florence to show the collections of Italian high fashion houses to journalists and foreign buyers. The event was so successful that for logistical reasons it was then moved to Milan in 1975.

The first ready-to-wear fashion shows saw Walter Albini, Krizia and Missoni on the catwalks, who were joined over the years by Giorgio Armani, Versace, Gianfranco Ferré and Dolce & Gabbana and then the Tuscan-based maisons such as Gucci, Roberto Cavalli, Emilio Pucci and Ermanno Scervino.

Today, together with New York, London and Paris, Milan Fashion Week is one of the "Big Four" or one of the four flagship events dedicated to fashion of global importance.

It is held twice a year and is organized by the National Chamber of Italian Fashion.

The news and most anticipated events of Fashion Week

The 2023 edition of Milan Fashion Week Spring Summer 2024 is marked by many debuts and the celebration of important anniversaries. After Alessandro Michele's farewell to the artistic direction of Gucci , the anticipation and curiosity to discover the new chapter of the maison under the guidance of Sabato de Sarno grew: on September 22nd clothes and models paraded through the suggestive streets of Brera in an exclusive fashion show.

The day before, September 21st, Tom Ford showed for the first time in Milan, bringing on stage the first collection of the new creative director Peter Hawkings: the famous American founder, director and director has left the world of fashion, passing the baton to the one who was his right-hand man for almost twenty-five years.

MFW 2023 represented the catwalk debut of, among others, The Attico , the brand founded by Gilda Ambrosio and Giorgia Tordini, and it was also the first time for Karoline Vitto , the Brazilian designer supported by Dolce & Gabbana .

The anniversary of several important anniversaries has transformed this edition of Milan Fashion Week into an important opportunity to pay homage to some of the fashion houses that have made the history of Italian fashion. The 40 years of Moschino were celebrated with an important fashion show dedicated to the founder Franco Moschino, a fashion show which took place on Thursday 21 September 2023.

During the 2023 Fashion Week in Milan, the 70 years of Fratelli Rossetti , emblem of footwear excellence and Italian style, were celebrated, while the historic Made in Italy brand Genny has completed 10 years under the creative direction of Sara Cavazza Porters.

MFW 2023: space for emerging designers and contaminations between the arts

The Milan 2023 fashion show calendar proved to be dense and varied again this year, but in addition to the fashion shows of the fashion houses acclaimed all over the world, Milan Fashion Week was the ideal scenario for discovering new brands and emerging designers .

It is with this intent that the elegant spaces of Palazzo Giureconsulti , a stone's throw from the Duomo, hosted the Fashion Hub of the National Chamber of Italian Fashion . The special installation and the talks put the spotlight on innovation, training, craftsmanship, experimentation, inclusion and sustainability.

As always, Milan Fashion Week is not just fashion, but also art and culture in the broadest sense, a special opportunity to visit the many exhibitions scattered around the city and inaugurated on the occasion of the MFW, including those hosted at the GAM - Galleria d 'Modern Art , at the Gallerie d'Italia and at Palazzo Reale .
