THE SECOND TIME ZONE AT A GLANCE
The SkyDweller simultaneously displays the time in a second time zone and the local time, indicated by the central hands. The second time zone (or also “reference time”) is indicated by a small triangle, highly legible thanks to its red outline, on the rotating graduated 24-hour disc. A characteristic element of the model, this decentralized disc allows you to distinguish the hours of night and day without misunderstanding, a significant advantage for those traveling on the other side of the world.
AN INNOVATIVE AND INTUITIVE ANNUAL CALENDAR
Specially developed for the SkyDweller, the patented Saros annual calendar is a key element of the model's identity. The name of this mechanism, with its innovative design, is inspired by the Greek term referring to the cycle of lunar and solar eclipses.
The Saros calendar automatically distinguishes 30-day months from 31-day months. It therefore requires only one manual date correction per year, between February and March. It is intuitive and easy to read. The current month is indicated in red in one of the twelve windows that dot the indices along the edge of the dial.
This horological innovation is based on two gear ratios and only four gear trains added to Rolex's instant date mechanism. The essential structure gives the Saros annual calendar excellent reliability.
RING COMMAND SYSTEM: TIME UNDER CONTROL
Developed by Rolex, the patented Ring Command system is an innovative mechanism of interaction between the rotating bezel, winding crown and movement. It allows you to easily, quickly and safely select the different functions of the SkyDweller, and then adjust them using the winding crown.
By rotating the knurled bezel (which has an accentuated profile for easier manipulation) counterclockwise, it is possible to choose the function you wish to adjust. First shot: date and month. Second shot: local time. Third step: reference time.
