BULGARI ED IL SERPENTE TUBOGAS

BULGARI AND THE TUBOGAS SNAKE

Today we are talking about an icon of watchmaking and jewellery, which has never ceased to enchant and seduce since the 1940s: the Tubogas Snake , one of the Maison's best sellers which expresses the quintessence of Bulgari style.
The tubigas clock was an immediate success; its golden links, connected to each other without welding, envelop the female wrist in an elegant and sensual way.

The jewel watch was brought to the limelight in 1962 by Liz Taylor who wore a version in gold, diamonds and emeralds on the set of the film "Cleopatra", contributing to the fame and success of this object.

WHY THE SNAKE?

Since ancient times the snake has been synonymous with wisdom, rebirth and renewal; in Greek and Roman mythology the serpent was associated with archetypes such as knowledge, health and life; in oriental culture it symbolizes transformation and regeneration.

THE TUBOGAS TECHNIQUE

The tubigas bracelet is the result of a complex technique whose name originates from the analogy with gas transport pipes, used from the 1920s onwards; the "tubogas Bulgari", created starting from the late 1940s, is a flexible band with beveled edges, made without welding.
Long strips of gold or steel with raised edges are wrapped around a wooden or copper core (which is then removed), which fit together to create a single, seamless and very flexible band.
Refined aesthetics are combined with innovative techniques that contribute to the timeless beauty of this watch.

THE EVOLUTION OF THE TUBOGAS SNAKE

Over the years the case has undergone multiple variations, going from round to square to "pillow" to teardrop. It was once positioned both at the end and in the center of the bracelet, while from the mid-1950s the snake began to have a more realistic shape; the case becomes the head of the serpent, made of gold, but also rubies, diamonds, emeralds and the movement is hidden inside it, while the bracelet takes center stage, being covered in gems and sometimes adorned with enamel decorations.

The tubogas snake celebrates its 75 years of life this year and is one of the few watches that continues to reinvent itself, remaining over time an icon of femininity and seduction.
