In 1956, the year of its presentation, the DayDate represents an important innovation: it is the first wristwatch with a calendar to indicate, in addition to the date, the day of the week in letters and in full inside a semicircle window 12pm, an authentic technical feat for the time.
Made exclusively in precious metal – 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold, or 950 platinum – and accompanied by the emblematic President bracelet, thanks to the variety of its dials it is an ideal model for the full expression of the wearer's personality.
THE DAYDATE SPEAKS THE LANGUAGE OF THE WEARER
Even though the days are the same everywhere in the world, they are written differently depending on the language. Using most writing systems (Latin, Arabic, Cyrillic, Hebrew, Japanese and Chinese ideograms, and even the Ge῾ez alphabet used in the Horn of Africa), the DayDate expresses the wearer's cultural identity. Available in 26 languages, it is a truly international, universal and personal watch.
THE MIRACLE AT MIDNIGHT: A MODEL OF PRECISION
At the stroke of midnight, the date and day of the week change simultaneously in their respective windows on the dial. This triumph of watchmaking, the “midnight miracle”, is based on a disc mechanism. It is the result of many years of research: from 1950 to 1955 Rolex filed four patents for timepieces equipped with a day and date display.
Today the DayDate is equipped with the caliber 3255, a new generation movement entirely developed and produced by Rolex to guarantee superlative performance.
THE PRESIDENT BRACELET
The three-row President bracelet, exclusively crafted in 18ct gold or 950 platinum, was created specifically for the Oyster Perpetual DayDate and was unveiled in 1956 at the launch of this prestigious watch. To this day, it is reserved for the precious metal DayDate and Datejust.
A PRECIOUS ALLY
Worn over the years by political figures, executives and visionaries around the world, the DayDate is immediately recognizable on the wrist, in particular due to the emblematic President bracelet. Destiny was in the name, because given the stature of the men who wore it, the DayDate was nicknamed “the president's watch”.
Decades come and go, but the DayDate remains where it has always been: at the cutting edge of the avant-garde. A prestigious timepiece resulting from Rolex's watchmaking know-how , the DayDate accompanies the personalities who shape the universe of their respective disciplines through their commitment, their human qualities and their creative genius.
Among the Rolex Testimonials associated with DayDate, the Brand recalls the American skier Lindsey Vonn, the Swiss tennis player Roger Federer, the American director Martin Scorsese and the American golfers Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player.
